Founded in 1999 by Michael Spreadbury, Spriso Motorsports has specialized in Datsun 510s and Datsun Roadsters creating some outstanding examples of the breed. Spriso is an acronym for SPR-eadbury, and ISO, for Nobi Iso, famed motorcycle road racer and Michael’s Japanese business partner.
Spriso Motorsports got their start by importing and exporting auto parts to and from Japan. Containers of parts filled with all sorts of unobtainium parts were soon hitting the shores of Oregon and California as Michael partnered with logistics expert, and fellow Datsun/Nissan enthusiast, Ralph Keynon.
The last few years have seen the business model change to restoration of classic Datsun vehicles such as the venerable Datsun 510 and Datsun Roadster.
Wanting modern Japanese reliability but the classic styling of a Datsun Roadster, Spriso Motorsports pioneered the first running/driving SR20DE swap into a Datsun roadster in the USA almost 10 years ago. As people saw how the engine swap transformed the car, demand for a similar car grew.
Spriso Motorsports has come up with many unique parts that have been specially designed for SR20DE(T) swaps into Datsun Roadsters, tested with our local group of test drivers (all of which own SR20-powered Datsun roadsters), before being offered to the general public.
Many of the cars you will see on these pages have been built by a tight-knit group of talented fabricators such as Eric Straw, and Michael Spreadbury. Of course these projects don’t exist without the amazing resources and unique skills of builders such as Dave Jolliff, Mike Braaten, Diamond Dave Barwick, and Jason Brainard.
Cars built by Spriso Motorsports have been featured in Sport Compact Car, Turbo Magazine, Super Street Magazine, Classic Automobile Magazine, Road & Track, and mentioned in many other forms of media. You will not find a group more passionate about the work that they do than the crew at Spriso Motorsports.
